History of Immanuel

In 1932, a few families, under the guidance of Rev. Otto Lossner from Creston, began Lutheran worship services in Osceola, Iowa. After 14 years of being a mission, Immanuel Lutheran Church was officially established in 1946, under the direction of Rev. Edward F. Heinicke.

In the beginning, Immanuel was served as part of a dual parish with the Lutheran church in Creston, but after Heinicke received a call to Evansdale, Iowa in 1948, Immanuel decided to call their first own resident pastor. Rev. Walter Pinnt was that pastor, accepting the call in 1951. Having rented other church buildings to hold services in until this point, in 1953 Immanuel purchased a lot as the future site for their first church building (for the price of $1,600). A church building and parsonage were constructed in 1956.
